National Day of Prayer Task Force Leadership Summit - Oct. 27-31

This week officially marks a New Beginning for the National Day of Prayer Task Force. For nearly 20 years it has been under the umbrella of Focus on the Family, but as of this past summer it is now completely on it's own. It's mission is to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, mobilizing the Christian community to intercede for America and its leadership in the seven centers of power: Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church and Family. It Promotes annually THE National Day of Prayer, the first Thursday of May. And it is becoming the Proclaimer of the Freedom of Prayer throughout the United States. Please pray for this Leadership Summit, October 29-31 as NDPTF Coordinators attend from around the whole country.

Joe Walsh, Founder and CEO of Capitol Fellowship Foundation, in Sacramento, CA, is also a 28 year volunteer with National Day of Prayer. He serves as the National Area Leader - West for the National Day of Prayer Task Force. Joe will be attending and serving at the Leadership and NAL Summit. From the villages of Romania . . .

As we drove away from the city and into the Translyvania countryside, villages dotted the picturesque landscape and we we felt like we were going back into time. In four of these villages we spent two days each bringing them much needed dental care and the gospel of Christ. Dianne took blood pressure and diabetes checks while the dental team filled, cleaned and extracted over 200 teeth. We were able to pray with many of these patients and each went home with a gospel message. At the same time the children’s ministry team held Vacation Bible Schools where scores of children prayed to receive Christ. The pastors of these villages will be following up on the children and their families, and on the new contacts made through the dental ministry.

During the first week of our Romania trip I was the media-guy, taking photos and videos of teeth being pulled, children listening to Bible stories, and our construction team hammering away on a retreat center. The second week held the opportunity to spend lots of quality time with these young pastors -- most of whom have three to four churches in different villages. God blessed and encouraged each heart of the twenty pastors and their wives who attended our Prayer Summit. Several are interested in using evangelistic home Bible dialogue groups to reach out to families in their villages. I’m now in the process of redeveloping the training materials we used in our ministry in Brazil for their use in Romania. Thank you so much for your faithfulness in praying for us this past summer. The Lord prepared, empowered and used us in many ways. Please pray for continued fruit to come forth in Romania.

Part of my responsibility as the National Area Leader for the West for the National Day of Prayer Task Force is to oversee the leadership in Hawaii. Recently Dianne and I flew over to be part of a church service to commission Paulette Williams as our new Hawaii State Coordinator and Daniel Vargas as our Regional Coordinator for the South Pacific. Then we stayed on for a few days to enjoy the island.

At the end of October we plan to head on to Colorado Springs for the NDP Task Force National Leadership Summit where all the leadership will gather for training, prayer, worship and inspirational speakers. I would ask you to pray especially for the hundreds of NDP coordinators will be attending from around the country. May they be further equipped and confident in God using they to bring the country to prayer.

California in Crisis . . .

As we get into the serious side of summer there are multiple crises in the NorthState. They are of several types but the solution is the same. There are still hundreds of fires burning in California and thousands of heroic men and women fighting them. God has provided mild wind conditions and often doused fires at the ignition point – we need to seek God for radical blessing even as we thank Him for the firefighters. Likewise, the economy in the state is showing signs of revival even as hundreds of new layoffs and closures are announced – God has not given us a spirit of fear and we need to seek His face at the same time we step out in faith and behave as though the economy were booming along. Our Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills and there is a world that needs our witness to that reality.

The most protracted prayer battle we face is political on its face and deeply spiritual at its core. The November ballot will feature an initiative to amend the California Constitution so that marriage is again sanctioned exclusively as between a man and a woman. We believe the political battle will be won as most Californians know instinctively that marriage has a shape and that all will suffer when that shape is denied. But the spiritual battle – the more important of the two – will be much more difficult. Will we decide that we have “had enough” of activist judges and radical political agendas and erupt in a backlash? Or will we walk the path of Our Lord Jesus who declares (in Mark 10:6-9) that marriage between a man and a woman is of the very fabric of creation? This Jesus died and rose for those with whom He agrees and disagrees. This Jesus speaks out for real marriage even as His heart breaks for the sexually broken. We need to pray for a corporate affirmation of His love even as we stand for His truth. We need to pray daily starting now. ~ JW, PrayNorthState

National Area Leader – West, National Day of Prayer Task Force

The National Day of Prayer annually makes a significant impact across our nation. Literally thousands of events occur in churches, public squares, city halls and parks, hotels and state capitols throughout the country. For more than twenty years I have had severed as a volunteer with the National Day of Prayer Task Force movement in the Sacramento area as an event, regional and the last five years as the State Coordinator. This past May in California alone we had over 500 events – the largest amount of any state. The regional, county and city coordinators and event planners all work hard to make this possible.

National Area Leader - West

During this past year I was able to train, Ted Rose, as a new California field coordinator. When I received a Phone call through Lisa Crump, the national manager, from Mrs. Shirley Dobson, the chairperson for the National Day of Prayer Task Force this Spring requesting that I accept a new responsibility as the National Area Leader – West, I knew that God had raised up Ted Rose to take over my position as State Coordinator. I now oversee and encourage the National Day of Prayer Task Force State Coordinators in Idaho, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.

Since it’s not a salaried position, our financial ministry support will still need to come from our generous donors through Capitol Fellowship Foundation / Christian Prayer Resources. They will, however, provide a travel budget for NDPTF ministry. For example, on June 27-29, I fly to Hawaii for a prayer ministry dedication and for training with all the Island NDPTF Coordinators. At the end of July Dianne and I will drive to Boise to meet with the Idaho State Coordinator and then on to Colorado Springs to spend time with the National Day of Prayer Task Force leadership at their home office.

CFF Ministry to Pastors

Luncheon, Prayer Summit being planned

My ministries with CFF continue on, however. I am mentoring several leaders in new ministries, planning a pastor’s luncheon and another prayer retreat with the same group of pastors. I serve on the Martin Luther King Jr, Christian celebration committee, for city-wide prayer events in 2009.

CCNews and Blogs serve Thousands

Our CCNews.org prayer/news portal grows and impacts thousands in North America and around the world each month. I created and have maintained a blog for the Capitol Hill Prayer Partners in Washington, D.C., and presently I’m working with another person to take over that daily responsibility. You can see it at: http://chpponline.us/. That blog keeps thousands of prayer warriors informed weekly with news to pray for your nation and the Middle East

Brief Financial Overview

We thank each of you for your friendship, participation in prayer and financial support over these many years! The donations to CFF, however, are currently down over 55% and we only have half as many donors as we had last year, said my volunteer bookkeeper recently.

Prayer Requests

1. A smooth transition for Ted Rose as he takes on this new volunteer State Coordinator position. Pray for his health and finances to also climb and stabilize.
2. Pray for travel to Hawaii & ongoing positive results .
3. Pray for encouragement and further equipping for to the Idaho State Coordinator, and those on our monthly NDPTF-West conference call, and for our trip to Colorado Springs.
4. Pray the right person be raised up for the Capitol Hill Prayer Partners Internet site, so full responsibility can be transitioned to them.
5. Wisdom to know how to help and further equip West State Coordinators in their responsibilities.
6. Pray for God’s direction in raising funds for the whole ministry of CFF. Two CFF Board positions to be filled this summer.
7. Pray for other laborers to be raised up for CFF and its many faceted ministries.

Dear Praying Friends,

This Sunday, where we are members of Arcade Church, I will be sharing about our call to ministry, and this week's prayer focus on the National Day of Prayer.

It was at Arcade Church in 1965 that God touched my heart, and I knew He was calling me to worship and serving Him the rest of my life. And it's been happening! ... College, seminary, a pastorate, missions, Capitol and community ministry, and National Guard Chaplaincy. It seems like I've lived several lives during these 39 years of ministry.

And for more than twenty years I have served as a volunteer with the National Day of Prayer movement in our city, county and state. And now this spring I was asked to serve as National Area Leader - West - mobilizing prayer for our nation with the National Day of Prayer Task Force. Dianne and I sensed God was leading us to say yes. I will now be sharing my time with seven states in the West - Idaho, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.

This new volunteer assignment was agreed to by our Board of Directors at Capitol Fellowship Foundation. They are loaning me to focus a large part of my time with the National Day of Prayer Task Force. Mrs Shirley Dobson, is the Chairperson over NDPTF. She has graciously welcomed me and prayed for me, along with the support of the other National Area Leaders of the National Day of Prayer Task Force team. Our home church at Arcade continues to pray and support our ministry with NDP and the CCNetwork of news and prayer in California and across the country.

Drew's Extreme Sinus condition has improved.

Dear Friends praying for Drew,

Thank you SO MUCH for the many people who have been praying for Drew during this time with his very severe sinus condition and pain associated with it.

I talked with him today, briefly during his lunch, and he reported that he's feeling much better. Today is the last day of his antibiotic pill. He's hoping not to have another sinus headache today. At 12:30 pm to day he had been feeling alot better. Those of you who have had Maingran headaches undoubtedly know Drew's situation.

So thank you again for your faithful prayers and encouragement. We are praying he will continue to heal well and regain his full strength soon.

May God's blessing of strength and health be your's today as well!

INFLUENCING THE COUNTRY ON OUR KNEES

Capitol Hill Prayer Partners is another very effective prayer ministry with whom we partner. CCNews created their new prayer blog. In the last eight months, tens of thousands have visited and prayed the news content from that site.

Praying for our country is a matter of obedience. The scriptures exhort us to pray for those in leadership (I Timothy 2:1-8). Others would call it the duty as a Christian citizen.

Informed strategic effective intercession is akin to strategic bombing in a war campaign. Strategic, informed, fervent and focused prayer makes a difference for a church, a city and a country. Logon to one of these news sites and become a part of a growing number of prayer warriors who are making a prayer difference in the Kingdom of God.

THE ECONOMY TAKES ITS TOLL

Thank you for donating to this ministry over the years. Many of you have given for 20, 30 years or more. And Dianne and I are SO grateful for each one of you. We bless you!

We have had a very stressful year support wise. The economy has taken its toll on local churches and missions world wide. This does not take the LORD by surprise! On the other hand, sometimes through finances the Lord redirects our steps. We are seeking what He would have us to do.

We are asking the Lord to keep us right in the center of his will. That’s the safest place to be.

Ministry expansion through the Internet is where much of the future Christian communication is going. CFF with CCNews and its extensive blogging networks are on the cutting edge of it all. But to stay there we definitely need help! We need Internet experienced people to join our volunteer network to help us link together every Continent into an informed and effective news prayer portal. CCNews has made a good start, but there is so much more to be done. It takes God-given talented people and finances.

Thank you for having prayed and given beyond the call of spiritual duty. You have been incredible! We love you all and appreciate each one of you.

I ask you now to pray for the LORD to raise up the finances and Internet workers to push this missionary prayer portal effort to the next level. God will use you to pray up the next generation of Missions prayer mobilizers. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

We had a house reception for them here in Sacramento, in the middle of their honeymoon from a time-share in Tahoe, to have a gathering with about 30 friends from Sacramento. It was like a reunion with many from Victory and the church they interned at in Roseville. So we’re breathing a little lighter now. Soon, Dianne and I will take a 3-4 vacation to get away and relax. With responsibilities at Arcade Church, and our ministry with several projects that are growing and pressing, life is not boring. How can it be when the Lord order’s our footsteps. We hope to get a complete Newsletter out soon.

Bringing people together in the Spirit of Christ to accomplish what God wants to do . . .

Has been the mission statement of Capitol Fellowship Foundation from the beginning of our 26 year ministry in Sacramento, California. The ministries of Christian Prayer Resources (CPR), Capitol Prayer Watch, Adopt-a-legislator, and CCNews.org, have been used of God to mobilize prayer for our city, state, legislature and beyond. CFF initiates, collaborates, and partners with many ministries who want to reach their city for Christ by promoting a prayer foundation.

Without prayer, we go no where! Hearing the heart of God comes from intimacy with Him. Through His Word, by His Spirit, God speaks His heart and will into every situation. God says, I know the plans I have for you …”. Jer. 29:11 (read context)

Through the faithful ministry of a non-name group, CFF is seeing prayer at the Capitol every weekend and most weekends. In the Capitol building there is prayer by staffers from the lowest to the highest levels of leadership. God is present in our Capitol and the warfare is great! Pray protection, direction, favor (PDF).

There is one Church in Sacramento . . .

But there are many congregations, traditions, streams, denominations and customs. They ALL love the Lord Jesus Christ. And all are honored. Pray for the pastors and the Church of the greater Sacramento region to come together in the spirit of unity Christ has for us. The spiritual warfare on a personal and congregational level is tense and real.

Pray especially for the MLK City Committee. Under it’s leadership the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee is being used of God to bring together pastors and leaders to love the whole Church of the city in a whole new way. And everyone is enjoying it! Please, pray PDF for this too.

How do you change the lives of junior high school students? One life at a time. That’s the focus of a new ministry called The LightHouse Academy. It’s been approved by the School District to develop and launch a tutoring, mentoring, friendship program for junior high school young men at a local school. It’s exciting! I’m there to help raise up praying people for these high risk student. Pray PDF for Bill Coibion. as he directs the launching of this program by the fall of ‘07.

“America, UNITE in Prayer” is the theme of this year’s National Day of Prayer. As the volunteer California State Coordinator for the National Day of Prayer Task Force, I am working with four regional NDPTF coordinators and they are working with county, city and events coordinators. And this year we welcome a new partnership with Stonecroft Ministries in California to work together in promoting NDP activity throughout the state. Please pray for God to be glorified at each event.

CCNews and the blogging network are very grateful to Neil Cox (my Indiana blogging mentor and good friend). We are part of a communications internet highway. We are looking for developers to take it to new levels we haven’t thought of yet!

CCNews.org has been recently upgraded to accommodate new technology and a broader news gathering capabilities to help others “pray the news”. “News”, we say, “is the providential working of God in human affairs. And the headlines man’s cry for help.”

Blogging is a word that many have heard, but few understand. Think of our news blogs as a continual early morning journal of news. The sidebars occasionally change, but the body text and graphics change daily. Our newest joint project is with the Capitol Hill Prayer Partners (chpponline.us). It’s an insiders’ view of news and the need for prayer at our nation’s Capitol. It is gaining a wide appreciation that has reached all the way to Israel and the Knesset. That’s right! Visit the Chpponline.us sidebar and you’ll see why. Also go to http://cityreaching.pbwiki.com/ and see the new Wikipedia site that Neil and I and others are working on. Please pray for it.

At a recent City Impact Roundtable in El Paso, Texas, I gain some new help for “city reaching”. Each speaker gave challenges that were revolutionary, practical and dynamic. A key lesson to learn is that God loves cities!! He loves them because they are filled with people, and God loves people! Barney Field was an incredible City Reacher host with very generous hospitality and wonderful fellowship.

Now imagine that such “city reaching” practices and communications were linked together on a global scale. Imagine the mobilization of millions of Christians world-wide under the leadership of their pastors and marketplace leaders using their gifts from God to reach entire continents with the Gospel of Christ. With the Internet it’s possible and real – and NOW! Please pray about this. In July there will be a meeting of a Missions Media Network that is already praying, thinking and planning these things. And I’ve been invited to be a part of this 20 person “spiritual” geek think tank that are way beyond me and much younger. But what an honor to be in the same room to share and pray.

Pray for an Internet Communicator to Join CFF.

Like many of you, my heart and vision has been captivated by the Internet. Communication Technology is one of the most fascinating vocations of life. CFF definitely needs another person or 2 who have internet skills to reach his world through this form of communicating the Gospel to this generation. .

Quick Report on Recent ministry trips

Hi – Thank you for praying for my San Diego, National Day of Prayer coordinators trip. It went exceptionally well. While there, I also met with leaders of Stonecroft Ministries to talk through a partnership with them & NDP in California for 2007. The project has been approved by the NDP national office. Pray for a smooth working together in various cities in California.

Praise the Lord – God also answered your prayers for a new San Francisco Regional NDP Coordinator. Pray for Cindy Owen as she volunteers, like all of us, for this heavy responsibility in the Bay region. I travel tomorrow, Monday, March 12, to meet her at her office in Santa Rosa for orientation.

The Los Angeles region had their NDP training this past Saturday. I gave input via a conference call to a group of county and city NDP Coordinators. Next Saturday will be the Northern Cal coordinator meeting. We are now having weekly prayer conference calls for the CA NDP Coordinators and the Governors’ Prayer Team.

In April I go to El Paso, TX for CityReaching conference; May is NDP; our Drew’s graduation from APU and wedding. Joel and Elizabeth are praying about moving from Seattle to Portland, Thank you for your prayers and donations. Would pray with us for God to raise up other donors as well. "On the Road Again" . . .

I’m getting ready to leave on a ministry trip to Southern California on Sunday afternoon. As volunteer State Coordinator for National Day of Prayer, I do a lot more work and focus on NDP teaching, speaking, and consulting over the phone with a multitude of challenges as the May 3rd event day draws near. I still have a need for a Regional Coordinator for the San Francisco Bay area. Please pray for that.

In April I go to El Paso, TX for CityReaching conference; May is NDP and Global Day of Prayer; June is Church Prayer Leaders Network in Mich.; and July is the North American Pastors Prayer Summit in Portland, OR. Capitol Hill Prayer Partners blog has explored with much interest. I welcomed our first Pakistani CCNews Portal correspondent to the team from Pakistan. Governor’s Prayer Team in California is doing exceptionally well with Stephanie Steele, and the Capitol Prayer Watch with Bessie continues to grow with prayer every weekday in the Capitol.

It’s February and the rains have begun to fall, but not in the amount that we desperately need for Sacramento and California. Like rain, we need a great falling of the mercy and grace of God upon on congregations and the whole Church of the city and country. These are desperate days for broken hearts and repentant prayer, so we may turn to God to worship and serve Him only … no matter what!

The New Year 2007

The signs of our time and the current events of the day may be merging into a “wonder-filled” New Year. The Lord’s return, the time of Jacob’s troubles could be at hand. If the Lord allows us to live out the next few years, we may all hear His summons from Heaven and His soon intervention to save Israel from annihilation from off the face of the earth . . . if Iran gets its’ way. Meanwhile, you have to wonder, Lord am I ready? Some even need to ask if they’re saved and ready for this end time of great geo-political-spiritual stress and warfare? It is exciting, but it’s also scary.

Our dependence is on the risen Lord Jesus Christ. He is our peace, protector and provider. If you have a 401K, or retirement account, you may not use much or any of it. For the time being, however, we keep worshipping and serving only Him. And as His servants and friends, we are listening and staying close as never before.

This month I have two Prayer Summits to facilitate, and in February a big National Day of Prayer training conference hosted by our NDP team in Fresno. Please for it and its God intended success. I’m also helping in Feb. with a Marriage Mentoring conference and program with our own local church. We’ve had a severe assault on the families of our congregation. The Marriage Mentoring ministry is so desperately needed right now. Please pray to that end

Like you, I sure, we had a wonderful Christmas. It was different. Drew & Becky (Drew’s fiancé, to wed next May 19 – in Pomona, CA) were here the week before Christmas. Joel and Elizabeth were here in early November and couldn’t make it back so soon. Besides the weather in Seattle and State was dangerous to travel. We did have a great time with Daniel, Jen and Chase. Jen’s Mom Terri and sister in-law Theresa also came. It was fun to act out the story of Christmas. As you know God has led us to partner with Capitol Hill Prayer Partners, where we pray for the President while he sleeps (9 pm 3 am PST ).

We pray over the http://oneyearbibleonline.com/ the president faithfully reads every morning. We also pray for Israel and America and the needs of the hour for our country and world. As you’ve noticed, this month has been a very dynamic time, and so has our praying. California hosts Tuesday nights. 2006- Merry Christmas and Happy New Year -2007

“BEHOLD I BRING YOU GOOD TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY!”

This, the most important announcement ever made, was declared by a glorious angel from God and backed up by a great heavenly host. “For there is born to you this day a Savior, who is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:10-11). May these tiding bring to you and your family great joy this Christmas!

For our family, the good news that Christ has come as our Lord and Savior is certainly appreciated as tidings of comfort and as well as joy. In October, just 10 days before her 92nd birthday, Dianne’s Mom, Ruby Sappenfield, joined the heavenly host. This Christmas she will be worshipping her Savior before the throne of God. At her graveside service she asked that we read her personal testimony of how Christ Jesus saved her and brought great joy to her life. She lived with us for the last eight years, praying daily for each member of our family. She was a great blessing! We miss her, but will see her later.

All the family was able to gather together in October for her service. Drew is finishing up his senior year at Azusa Pacific University and working part-time as an associate minister of music at the First Baptist Church in Pomona. Dianne and I traveled to Seattle this summer to join Joel, Elizabeth, Annie and Jonah for a special vacation as we drove up to Whistler, Canada, together. They also traveled to Spain this year where Joel aided some missionaries with their new computer set-up. Daniel and Jennifer moved to an apartment just a few miles from us, so we get to enjoy frequent visits and baby-sitting Chase twice a week.

Now we have more “tidings of great joy!” Becky Pink and Drew will be getting married this May 19th, at their church in Pomona. Becky is in her junior year of the nursing program at Azusa Pacific University. We feel greatly blessed to add another wonderful daughter-in-law to our family circle.

In November our ministry hosted an early debut of “The Nativity Story “ which we showed to almost 150 ministry leaders and pastors. It is an outstanding film that portrays the dynamic drama there must have been when Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant. We give it two thumbs and two big toes up. It’s good for the whole family and especially those who don’t know clearly the Christmas story.

This month has been busy with a new partnership in the making – a collaboration with Capitol Hill Prayer Partners. This ministry has been around since 1994 and has been “under cover” most of that time. They work closely with the White House and chaplains of the US Senate and House of Representatives. CHPP has a Nightwatch praying for the President while he sleeps. They pray the same Bible readings the President does each morning, before he does. We pray God’s blessing of protection, direction and favor upon your heart, home and ministry! Thank you for the blessing you are to us with your prayers, support and words of encouragement. At the end of November the Lord opened up a new partnership of prayer on a National level for the president, our country and Israel that has come as a complete and joyous surprise.

The Capitol Hill Prayer Partners has asked our ministry to link arms with them in mobilizing prayer for the president of the United States during the night hours as he’s asleep.- the Midnight Watch (9 pm to 11 pm, 11 pm to 1 am, and 1 am to 3 am PST). Bringing Pastors together in the city for the city – Bringing Intercessor together at the Capitol on a daily basis to bless and pray for those in authority. Being mentored to be a Marriage Mentor for our congregation and to pastors. Partnering with Capitol Hill Prayer Partners was a West Coast communications facilitator. Encouraging PrayCal reorganization of state prayer ministry. Planning for upcoming National Day of Prayer Workshop in Fresno. Developing several new prayer communication blog sites. These activities and more were all sandwiched in and around Thanksgiving. And what a fun time it was to be together with most of our family. Drew and Becky (Drew’s finacee) were here with Dan & Jen and we had a fun and relaxing 5 days. The Christmas holidays will be filled with the true meaning of the year. As you may know, I was involved with organizing the Prayer Room for Promise Keepers Men’s conference in Sacramento – Oct 6-7. Nearly six hundred men made decisions to follow Jesus. I attended the Annual Pastors luncheon in Sacramento, Oct 11 with William Jessup University, and I am co-sponsoring a lunch with Pacific Justice Institute, Oct 18. I also spoke at a UC Berkeley forum – “Evangelicals in American Politics”. Dynamic!! I helped facilitate the team that organized Pastor Jake Larson’s Installation Service at Arcade Church, Sacramento. I serve on the MLK Jr. committee & met with them. Ruby N. Sappenfield leaves Godly Impact on our Family

Recently (October 10), Ruby N. Sappenfield, age 91, past into the presence of God. Dianne's Mom had lived with us for over eight years. She made a profound impact on our whole family, Pat Edwards', Dianne's sister's family, and many others. She was someone who deeply loved her Lord Jesus Christ, and recently at her graveside gathering with the extended family, her last requests were for her Personal Testimony be read, and that Drew ( her 21 year old grandson), sing on this occasion. Both were accomplished. Here are "G-G"'s (great-grand-ma) words to us.

My Own Personal Testimon (Ruby N. Sappenfield)

I have found that I am very fortunate that for several years I was very unhappy, in fact so unhappy that I didn't care whether I lived or not. In fact, I guess I'd have rather been dead, but I didn't have the fear of death because I didn't know what one must do to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I thought that because I wasn't an undesirable character from skid row, that stole or killed and the like that I would just go to heaven. I wasn't even aware that I was a sinner and unless one is aware that he is a sinner he cannot feel the need to repent of his sins. If I had been happy I guess I never would have started seeking the Lord . . . I wanted so much to find happiness.

My daughters would come home from Sunday School and tell me what they had learned. It was through them and my unhappiness that I started seeking the Lord. I finally realized that all have sinned and come short of the glory of god, and to be saved one must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart and soul, and repent of all your sins. In so doing you will be born again, of the Holy Spirit, and be made a new creature. Then you will want God's Will to be done in your life and not your own will, and you will constantly be seeking things from above and not the material and worldly things that are of the Devil. Also, you will realize that if you aren't doing what the Lord wants then you are doing what the Devil wants. So you can't be happy unless you are doing the Lord's Will, and that will be your desire. In doing the Lord's Will you will have a Peace and Contentment and Happiness that you wouldn't have believed existed before.

You can be as good as you like and go to church every day but the Bible teaches that unless you take the Lord Jesus Christ as your own Personal Saviour . . . repenting of all your sins . . . and being Born again of the Holy Spirit, that you cannot and will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

I am so glad that I found out these things and did something about them, so that when the Lord comes down to gather in His children I will wake up in Heaven with Him and Everlasting Life of Peace and Contentment, and not be surprised to wake up in Hell with its everlasting destruction and torture, because I didn't know any better. That is why I consider myself lucky that I was unhappy for years, because we just live a few years on this world and we spend Eternity in either Heaven or Hell. I'm glad I choose Heaven.

for Christ
will last."

I used to think that if my daughters wanted to be missionaries I wouldn't let them go, but now I would consider it a great privilege for them to be called by God to be a missionary, and although I would miss them, I could never stand in their way of doing what God wants them to do. I sincerely hope that God wants to use them in His service someway whether it be in the United States or in darkest Africa. I hope they never turn away from God, but always do His Will. I will be thankful that I did have sense enough to send them to Sunday School every Sunday, so that through them I found my Salvation.

To the best of our guess, we think Ruby wrote that testimony in the early 1960's. At the time both of her daughters had either attended or graduated from Simpson Bible College when it was in San Francisco. Since her writing, Pat Edwards, the first daughter, has been a Christian School Teacher, very active in Church, and together with her whole family strong followers of their Lord Jesus Christ.

Dianne, likewise married, and together with Joe Walsh were missionaries in Brazil and Latin America, in the pastoral ministry, in the military chaplaincy, and a community minister in their city, state and beyond with Capitol Fellowship Foundation. Dianne for nearly 15 years had a Backyard Bible Club for Elementary Children, taught elementary SS Class, and a Christian nurse in Public Schools.

Walter and Ruby Sappenfield's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren content to seek the Lord Jesus Christ and benefit from the wonderful spiritual heritage of these parents and grand-parents. Now together, they enjoy the presence of God with all those who have believed and received the Lord Jesus Christ, and born again of the Holy Spirit, and made fit for the Kingdom of Heaven. We all praise God for Ruby's lasting Personal Testimony to us all!

Fall Ministry in FULL Swing . . .

The fall is always an exciting time of beauty and ministry. Everything starts back-up filled with renewed vision, plans and energy. Local churches, para-church ministries alike, all take their leap forward for God’s glory and Kingdom.

At Arcade Church where I am a member and Board Elder, our Men’s Prayer Encounter has it’s annual worship-based-prayer experience where men come into God’s presence to seek His Face because He’s worthy to be sought.

This month Promise Keepers will have in Sacramento a Men’s worship-prayer-instruction conference to become all God wants us to be. Joe Walsh is the Pray Captain for the PK Prayer Room at ARCO Arena, the home of the Sacramento Kings basketball team. The men from the region will attend to worship the King of Kings.

Williams Jessup University, our newest Christian University for the Sacramento region is having it’s second annual pastors breakfast with great encouragement of dynamic speaker . . .

Capitol Fellowship Foundation, along with Williams Jessup University are also co-sponsoring a luncheon for Pastors with Pacific Justice Institute. These days when religious freedoms are being eroded around us. PJI will provide legal tools that will help pastors and local congregations.

Joe will be speaking on a panel at the UC Berkeley Campus, on Evangelicals and their involvement in the political arena. The topic is demanding and could be intimidating with dialog with other University professors. Please pray!

The NDP Conference in Colorado Springs, CO, promises to be helpful for our county and city NDP Coordinators. Next Feb. ’07, Fresno hosts CA NDP.

How to Look at Life . . .

You may have heard of Rick Warren, the author of "A Purpose Driven Life". Here's a wonderful peek into the way a Godly man thinks when he is blessed and/or in times of trouble.

People ask me, "What is the purpose of life?" And I respond: "In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me. I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal.

God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity. We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one.

The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort. God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore. Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.

No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on. And no matter how bad things are in your life,there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems. If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness, which is "My problem, my issues, my pain."

But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her. It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life. Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy. It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72.

First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.

Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity? Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, "God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better." God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do. That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.

THINK ABOUT THIS:
Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

I Have Good News

I have some wonderful news! My doctor called this evening to let me know that the CT Scan was "OK". And he said, if I wanted to make an appointment to talk with him I could. That's rather pleasantly up in the air . . . wouldn't you say? So, praise God the spot on the lung wasn't anything serious. Meanwhile, I am going to make an appointment, just to clarify things and bring closure, hopefully.

Thank you all of you who prayed. I prase Him for the good report and will continue to serve Him til the end . . . and to do that with you!

Joe under goes CT Scan - results in 5 days

Hi Everyone! I went to the hospital for the CT Scan of my lungs this afternoon. (It's like a "Star Gate Portal") After the procedure, which maybe lasted 5 minutes, the technician said to call my doctor in 5 days, if he doesn't call me first. So ... no news is good news ... right? Meanwhile we keep walking on with the LORD and enjoy His presence here.

This newsletter is not only overdue, but the content could go on for pages. And I apologize for being late. How I praise God for the past six months. I started the year saying it was going to be a busy 2006, and was I right! This report will reflect your prayers and investment with our great appreciation!

January 2006 started with a flurry of planning and activity on several fronts. The first was with the Martin Luther King Jr. Sunday Celebration here in Sacramento. I serve on the committee to bring together the whole church to gain a broad perspective of a future and hope for the Sacramento region.

Then the National Day of Prayer planning and activity for the whole State of California took it’s major step forward in Fresno with training for many county coordinators. I have now been working with the National Day of Prayer 22 years. The California NDP Task Force committees were launched all over the state. The California Capitol Committee was no exception as it fired up the 2006 theme: “America, Honor God”.

The end of January found me in Las Vegas . . . not for what it might seem! I met with leaders from all over the U.S.A. for prayer and planning for the Global Day of Prayer (June 4 – Pentecost Sunday). Bob Bakke, the North America facilitator and international traveler for GDoP, worshiped and prayed with us all. We dialogued, planned and prayed some more. We all came away with the inspiration to get the job done … to bring the Church of our city together to pray, worship and show the love of Christ to the whole city. We are moving toward that end. I finished developing the North America GDoP blogs, one for each state and province in Canada.

With all these GDoP blogs have come new relationships in Canada, and Great Britain. For Great Britain I created 110 county blogs for their prayer movement. These new prayer mobilization blogging communication networks are revolutionizing the way to pray for nations. Those praying are not bound by time or geographical location. “Praying the News” of the nations will take missions to a whole new level of outreach -- and that is exciting!

In February I worked together with Eddie and Alice Smith to invite intercessors to the Zig Ziglar Sacramento Motivational Seminar. They had the largest one-day event ever held (over 30,000 attended three venues in simulcasts). The intercessors prayed, people came to Christ and lives where changed!

In March I attended the Board of Directors meeting with Faith Comes by Hearing in Albuquerque, NM. There each board member received their own “Proclaimer” – a newly invented Audio Bible sound system. I am enjoying mine and showing it to others. This sound system is recognized by the American Bible Society and International Bible Societies and others as the key to unlocking the nations and all languages to hear the Gospel before our Lord Jesus Christ’s soon return!

In March I also taught at the Imagine Conference in Sacramento at Arcade Church – “Motivating Men to Pray”. Moreover, I have been working with my friend Neil Cox, who introduced me to blogging, to develop a city, state, regional -- Mission America Coalition City Reachers blog network.

Global Day of Prayer and National Day of Prayer preparations has been especially keeping me and many others busy here in Sacramento. We are now going to have the GDoP event at the Adventure Christian Church in Roseville. The three committees have pulled well together and I am certain the event will greatly bless the Lord here, as it will around the world.

National Day of Prayer Event at the California State Capitol was excellent with about 500 people attending during the 1 ½ hour timeframe. We had outstanding youth participation. A representative from the Governor’s Office, Assistant Chief of Staff, Mr. Dan Dunmoyer, read the Governor’s Proclamation. The worship was led by Ron Coffin on the keyboard and prayers made by many people over nearly every area of life and government for our state and country.

The Sacramento Pastors Roundtable was launched with Pastor Sherwood Carthen facilitating the time. Michelle and Bart Colpitts are a part of an indispensable City Administration Team (CAT) that Capitol Fellowship Foundation is launching to serve the Pastors and Church of Sacramento. Other ministries that tie into serving the pastors and Church of Sacramento are Mosaicem.org and Christian Meeting Planners. Please be in prayer for this CAT team. I am needing to raise $1500 a month of additional donations to underwrite this much needed ministry administrative focus of the CFF Group, which will ultimately bless the entire city and assist me in serving the city and more.

Another ministry project that compliments services to the Church of the region is the newly launched http://christian-speakersbureau.blogspot.com/. This will become a wonderful tool of linking gifted speaking Christians to needs of the Church at large in the region.

Mark Matta, founder and president of Public Awareness Ministries, is doing an outstanding work of mobilizing prayer groups in local churches to pray for public policy issues, register people to vote, inform churches with local voter guides, help elect godly people to leadership, and get out the vote! CFF Group is partnering to encourage P.A.M. as it starts it’s new ministry to the Body of Christ in California. Mark inspired my home church to start our own group. You can see it at Arcade Prayer for Public Policy.

CFF Group also launched about 30 new blogs in the past six months. Some were for CFF Group, most for others and all FREE of charge. Two such blogs (weblogs) are http://datelinesacramento.com and the other http://datelinecalifornia.net. These were developed in co-orporation with the California Family Council. Both provide information on public policy issues that need much prayer!

It is literally having affect in Sacramento and way beyond. CCNews Portal is maturing into a respected news portal and prayer mobilization service. Sacramento Outlook as a Christian community and networking blog service is leading the way for others. All this work is run from this small laptop computer. Amazing isn’t? God has blessed us with technology that is really making a difference. But all this takes much prayer. And our services require support. God is faithful to us. He always has been. . . now 32 years in full-time donor driven ministry. And I say “THANK YOU” from the bottom of my heart!! You have blessed us so we can use your investment to bless many others. January 2006 Update

January and now February is rushing by. January started off with blogging for the MLK, Jr. Sunday Celebration. Then meeting with NDP Capitol Prayer Event committee and further training in Fresno.

God brought new networking partnerships with friends in Canada and Great Britain. I traveled to Las Vegas for the planning preparations for GDoP – State/Province blogsites and local planning. Began GDoP facilitation planning for Sacramento.
I helped find intercessors for Zig Ziglar Sacramento Motivational seminar, largest one ever held (over 30,000 attended three venues in simulcasts.

I attended Faith Comes By Hearing Board of Directors meeting – mobilizing prayer for The Proclaimer sound system for overseas distribution. Then we had our own CFFGp Board meeting.

Pray for home computer helpers for all these ministries, including Gov.Prayer Team. We need Screeners for blog Comments. We need more prayer and more power . . . how I need both! We need God’s wisdom to lead, facilitate, organize and reproduce coordination.

We have been losing donators because of various reasons. All are legitimate and certain. Especially passing into the Presence of the Lord. Please for the Lord to raise up other laborers and financial donors for this rapidly growing ministry. Wow! 2006 is here . . .

. . .2006 … It’s been 45 years since I graduated from High School. Do you remember when you graduated? In 1961, the year 2006 was not on my radar. But here it is. And life is moving faster and more complex than ever. We think of you all with great appreciation and affection. The ministry of prayer mobilization is ever expanding and at this time it is growing faster through the Internet than I ever thought possible. A Joyous Merry Christmas to you ALL!

"Over the river and through the woods" ... all our children and grandchildren are coming to our house this Christmas to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ together.

Joe and Elizabeth will fly in from Seattle, WA, with baby Jonah and big sister Annie. At three years she is just big enough to start in pre-school a few days a week with a little ballet on the side. Jonah, at 7 months, is into rolling all over the floor pursing his toys. Joel has a new job as a project manager for http://www.allstardirectories.com, a company that provides highly qualified student leads to colleges and universities. Elizabeth is very talented cook and homemaker.

Drew will be driving up from Los Angeles where he is in his junior year at Azusa Pacific University. He is also having a wonderful experience as a part-time music intern for the high school and college students at the First Baptist Church of Pamona.

Dan, Jennifer and Chase will just buzz down the freeway from Roseville, to join us. Dan and Jennifer both work within blocks of our home -- he is a manager for Boston Markets and she is a part-time server for Sizzler. On the evenings when both happen to work overlapping shifts, we enjoy taking care of 16 month old Chase. He is a great explorer, examining his environment and testing out new skills - like climbing, talking and feeding himself.

To complete our family circle, Dianne's Mom, who at 91 lives with us (declined to be foto graphed), will embrace these grand- children and great grandchildren with her hugs and kisses.

We thank God for the wonderful gift of family that He has given us. And we thank Him for you as part of our family in Chirst,

Happy Thanksgiving!

The question is no longer “where is Waldo now?” But it is where is Walsh now? During the last few months I have been literally “bouncing around creation” as God has opened up some amazing doors of ministry to me!

It all started at the end of July when I arrived in Enping, China, with a team of six English language teachers. Our students were Chinese public school English teachers who know how to read and write English, but not how to speak English. For twelve days from 8 am to 9 pm, we taught conversational English using our cultural/religious holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter as a springboard for discussion. We read the story of Jesus' birth, death and resurrection from a simplified English translation of the Bible. Now that they have read it, we pray these words will sink into their hearts. There was only one believer in our class of 165, and there is no church this city of over 400,000 people. We were the first Americans they had ever seen in person. While it is basically against the law to proselytize, if they asked questions, we were allowed to answer forthrightly and to be a positive witness by our lives. We were greatly appreciated by the administration and teachers of the school and were asked to bring back another team next year. The door is wide open.

On the way home from China, I stopped in Dallas, Texas, to attend the national debriefing of the Global Day of Prayer as their representative from Northern California. We held our first Global Day of Prayer in North America this past May, and we are planning to make it an annual event for June. During the interlude between my travels, I made a visit with thirteen other pastors to meet with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to find out what his concerns are for the State of California and to how pray for him. He greatly appreciated the time of prayer we had for him. View and Joint the Governors Prayer Team

I was asked recently to be the State Coordinator for the California Governors Prayer Team. Several individuals already have volunteered to be county coordinators and many others to be intercessors. Please pray for God’s guidance in every step of its organization.

In October I took off on a trip to Chicago with Mission America Coalition. Because of our extensive news coverage at CCNews Portal and my association with Mission America and City Reaching, I have been able to work via the Internet to create a blog system to connect people in the Gulf States region since hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In the midst of these meetings in Chicago I was also able to help them launch a blog site for their new ministry emphasis of Loving Your Community to Christ (http://lc2cmac.blogspot.com/).

While in the mid-west, it timed out perfecting for me to detour to Colorado Springs to participate with the National Day of Prayer annual coordinators meetings. I was able to share the blessings of being the California State Coordinator and introduce some of the great regional and county coordinators from California who attended.

The final stop in my travels was Albuquerque, New Mexico, the headquarters of Faith Comes By Hearing. I am honored to serve as a new member of their Board of Directors. Their goal is to put the Audio Bible into every language group in the world in the next ten years. They work in partnership with Wycliffe Bible Translators, the United Bible Societies of the world, and with the American Bible Society. Faith Comes By Hearing is focusing on the 3 ½ billion illiterates and poor of the world who have never heard the Gospel because they cannot read or the Bible is not in their language. I feel strongly drawn to this ministry and will be serving them by mobilizing prayer for this worldwide Audio Bible ministry.

The BIRTHING of Some New Things

What joy it is to share with you the birthing of new things in our family and ministry!

Jonah William Joseph Walsh (JWJW)! Wow! With a name like that you know God has something special for our newest grandson.! Annie, Jonah's big sister, is going to make sure he discovers it! Annie picked out his name!

Jonah's mom (Elizabeth) and dad (Joel) are doing great! They have their hands full of love as never before! Please pray for them all . !

And Now Let Us Tell You About the Birth of a Ministry - Global Day of Prayer. I first learned about Global Day of Prayer while in Thailand last October, 2004, during the Lusanne conference. There I met leadership from south Africa that were planning and promoting it. They had started in South Africa in 2000, and it has exploded every year ever since. Last May, the first world-wide Global Day of Prayer was celebrated. I was a contact person for California, and I set-up a blog communication system for them which included every state and province in north America. This month in Sacramento we meet with pastors who celebrated GDoP this year and who are planning toward the event for next year. In August I will be attending the North America GDoP steering committee decriefing and planning meeting in Dallas, TX, on my way back from China. Over 200 million world-wide partcipated this year. In 2006 it is hoped it will more than double!

And yes, I'm going to China! in August. I have had an interest in going to China for years, but the circumstances were never right. This year a group (6) from our church has been invited to teach English to 260 Chinese English teachers from the region of Enping, 200 miles north of Hong Kong. Conversational English and blogging are my assignments. We really need your prayers for this. And couple of us (me included), no nothing about teaching ESL. We are desiring to build bridges so that other teams may return in the future. Pray for opportunities for us to testify of the love of Christ in word and deed. We are restricted in sharing the gospel and can do so only if they ask us about our faith. So, we pray for open doors. We are going with 1 Peter 3:15 as our teams verse of scripture!

Another ministry project God has called me to be involved with is the Mission America Coalition (MAC). Neil Cox (a friend form Indiana), and I are serving MAC by putting together a nation-wide, city reaching blog network.

Mentoring young leaders, meeting with pastors, doing radio talk shows, networking with National Day of Prayer, and ministering in prayer at our local church - all this keeps me very busy!
